Well, this is just a difference in opinion. I don't think that Vegeta was crazy enough to kill himself when fighting against Goku, but you do.
I think of two completely different reasons, my friend. Either he was insane at that moment, which I most likely won't question. His pride was engraved forever, maybe even broken. He told Goku it won't last long, but Goku's words "that even a low Saiyan with training could beat an elite" made him take a task to erase it from Goku's mind, and that wasn't the case. It was done. Goku beat him. Beaten by a low class warrior that he promised to take out quickly.

The other reason is he could have a plan, he would fly to out space, cause he can survive at least for a while, and manage to get a pod. I'd say this one has less credibility than the one above.

This is what I always figured, meaning all he could do was core bust and leave Goku there to die.

He struggles with 40 in base and so does anyone at his level

Why should being weak make his body so much more susceptible to being crushed if he has as much physical strength as you suggest?
Doing what the spirit bomb did doesn't signify weight at all, bijuudama makes shockwaves upon creation and four tailed Naruto couldn't lift a small one, same Naruto who made a massive crater with one swing of his arm. Plus it's stated to be extremely dense.

Even Orochimaru says the tiny one would kill him /thread
